An Inconvenient Truth: The Crisis of Global Warming
by Al Gore
|
Book Description
Former Vice President Al Gore's New York Times #1
bestselling book is a daring call to action, exposing the
shocking reality of how humankind has aided in the destruction
of our planet and the future we face if we do not take action
to stop global warming. Now, Viking has adapted this book for
the most important audience of all: today's youth, who have no
choice but to confront this climate crisis head-on.
Dramatic full-color photos, illustrations, and
graphs combine with Gore's effective and clear writing to
explain global warming in very real terms: what it is, what
causes it, and what will happen if we continue to ignore it.
An Inconvenient Truth will change the way young people
understand global warming and hopefully inspire them to help
change the course of history.

Soul Journey from Lincoln to Lindbergh by Richard
Salva
Descriptive text, plus testimonials and
reviews, are located on my website:
www.CrystarPress.com |
About the book
About fifty years ago a great master of yoga,
Paramhansa Yogananda, declared that Abraham Lincoln had been a
Himalayan yogi in a past life, and that he was reborn as the
famous aviator, Charles Lindbergh. But what do the histories
show? Is there anything in the lives of these two men that
validates Yogananda's statement?
In his new book, Soul Journey from Lincoln to
Lindbergh , Richard Salva presents hundreds of similarities in
the personalities, characters, and life circumstances of these
two American icons.
The connections span every aspect of the human
condition-from the physical to the mental, emotional,
spiritual and interpersonal-and provide convincing evidence
that Lincoln reincarnated as Lindbergh.
By drawing parallels to the life and words of
Lincoln, the author explains how past-life experiences
influenced Lindbergh-thus presenting answers to questions
about the aviator that have puzzled historians for decades:
such as why Lindbergh fought so hard to prevent America from
entering WW II.
More than one out of every five Americans today
believes in reincarnation-yet few are aware of how past-life
patterns affect them. Soul Journey fills this gap, by offering
a vicarious experience of reincarnation. Through clear and
persuasive parallels between the lives of Lincoln and
Lindbergh, the reader discovers how the hidden laws of karma
and reincarnation impact the events of his or her daily life.
Published in time for Lincoln's Birthday, Soul
Journey addresses other important issues, such as the secret
spiritual history of America's greatest president, including
his past life as a Himalayan yogi; the hidden clues that
reveal past lives; how greatness is achieved; and the
spiritual principles behind the yoga postures that millions
now practice.
Soul Journey has drawn praise from metaphysical
experts. Yoga scholar Dr. David Frawley calls it "a
fascinating account." Reincarnation authority Frank DeMarco
describes the book as "highly interesting" and "a thoughtful
comparison of Lincoln . . . and Lindbergh." And Swami
Kriyananda, disciple of Yogananda, asserts that "it deserves
to become a classic."
About the Author
Richard Salva became interested in
reincarnation and yoga philosophy in his teens, when he moved
to Ananda, a yoga community in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
For the next thirty years, he continued his studies under the
guidance of Swami Kriyananda, a direct disciple of Paramhansa
Yogananda. An author and minister, he has lectured on
reincarnation, yoga philosophy, and history in the United
States and in Europe. He currently lives in Silicon Valley,
California.

Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity : Get Out the
Shovel--Why Everything You Know is Wrong (Hardcover)
by John Stossel
|
Editorial Review from Publishers Weekly
ABC News correspondent Stossel mines his 20/20
segments for often engaging, frequently tendentious challenges
to conventional wisdom, presenting a series of "myths" and
then deploying an investigative journalism shovel to unearth
"truth." This results in snappy debunkings of alarmism,
witch-hunts, satanic ritual abuse prosecutions and marketing
hokum like the irradiated-foods panic, homeopathic medicine
and the notion that bottled water beats tap. Stossel's
libertarian convictions make him particularly fond of exposés
of government waste and regulatory fiascoes, which are usually
effective but lead inexorably to blanket denunciations of
"monster government" and sermons on the wisdom of the market.
Sloganeering—"Myth: The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission) will make America less sexist. Truth: The EEOC
will torment people and enrich lawyers"—sometimes crowds out
objectivity. The author's complacent glosses on overpopulation
and global warming ("we can build dykes and move back from the
coasts") are especially glib and one-sided. Fans of Stossel's
similarly opinionated bestseller Give Me a Break will eat up
this new book, but other readers may wince when the author's
ideology overshadows the facts.

The Da Vinci Code, Special Illustrated Edition (Hardcover)
by Dan Brown
|
Book Description
One of the bestselling novels of all time, Dan
Brown's The Da Vinci Code has intrigued and thrilled millions
of readers around the world. Now all the artwork, symbols,
architecture, and historic locations—over 160 images—are
beautifully compiled in this full-color collector's edition.
A mind-bending code hidden in the works of
Leonardo da Vinci. A desperate race through the cathedrals and
castles of Europe. An astonishing truth concealed for
centuries… unveiled at last.
While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist
Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call. The
elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the
museum, a baffling cipher found near the body. As Langdon and
a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, sort through the
bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues
hidden in the works of Da Vinci–clues visible for all to see
and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.
The stakes are raised when Langdon uncovers a
startling link: the late curator was involved in the Priory of
Sion—an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac
Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.
Langdon suspects they are on the hunt for a breathtaking
historical secret, one that has proven through the centuries
to be as enlightening as it is dangerous. In a frantic race
through Paris, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu find themselves
matching wits with a faceless powerbroker who appears to
anticipate their every move. Unless they can decipher the
labyrinthine puzzle, the Priory's secret—and an explosive
ancient truth—will be lost forever.
Instantly catapulted to the top of the bestseller
lists around the world, The Da Vinci Code is simultaneously
lightning-paced, intelligent, and intricately layered with
remarkable research and detail. From secrets embedded in the
Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, to the symbols of ancient
Egypt, to the architecture of landmarks such as the Louvre,
Westminster Abbey, Rosslyn Chapel, and more, this fully
illustrated collector's edition delivers the complete reading
experience of Dan Brown's riveting novel—from the opening
pages to the unpredictable and stunning conclusion. |

A Dictionary of Alchemical Imagery
Alchemical Active Imagination : Revised Edition
(C. G. Jung Foundation Books) (Paperback)
by Marie-Louise von Franz
|
Book Description
C. G. Jung's most important living disciple
explains alchemy as a symbolic process of psychological and
spiritual transformation.
Although alchemy is popularly regarded as the
science that sought to transmute base physical matter, many of
the medieval alchemists were more interested in developing a
discipline that would lead to the psychological and spiritual
transformation of the individual. C. G. Jung discovered in his
study of alchemical texts a symbolic and imaginal language
that expressed many of his own insights into psychological
processes. In this book, Dr. von Franz examines a text by the
sixteenth-century alchemist and physician Gerhard Dorn in
order to show the relationship of alchemy to the concepts and
techniques of analytical psychology. In particular, she shows
that the alchemists practiced a kind of meditation similar to
Jung's technique of active imagination, which enables one to
dialogue with the unconscious archetypal elements in the
psyche. The book opens therapeutic insights into the relations
among spirit, soul, and body in the practice of active
imagination.

Digital Photography : A simple step-by-step visual guide to
taking great photographs and digitally enhancing them using
Photoshop (Paperback)
by Michael Wright
|
Book Description
A unique approach to a hot subject--digital photography
and Photoshop. The only book that shows you how to do it:
pictures first, words second.
Michael Wright argues that words spoil most photography books,
which are overcomplicated by too much text. It should, he
argues, be possible to understand the sequence of events in a
photographic or computer process without having to read the
text. Photography is a visual process, and the best way to get
it across, simply and easily, is visually. We rose to that
challenge in the design of this book. We took out everything
that wasn't absolutely essential, and illustrated every
conceivable step; and it has proved to be remarkably
effective. We applied this approach to all areas of digital
photography, from composing and taking the shot in the first
place, to manipulating the image on a computer, using either
Photoshop Elements or Photoshop 7. The result: a completely
unique guide to digital photography.
About the Author
Michael Wright is a photographer and artist who teaches
art and photography at Hertfordshire University in the UK. He
is the author of three books: the forthcoming Step by Step
Digital Family Photographs (Ilex), An Introduction to Mixed
Media and An Introduction to Pastels (both DK).
